1991 Rodeo pros and cons??? #680952 12/30/05 02:07 AM

I may be buying a 1991 Rodeo 4wd, 3.1L, 5-speed. Anything I should be aware of that was a problem with the 91's? Undesirable or week tranny or tranfer case? Head gasket issues? etc, etc.

Thanks

Other than the 3.1 not being a big power house. But they are strong and reliable. My 92 has 240,000 on her. I have had it since 94. I don't know that there are any differences between these two years. 93 was when they switched to the Isuzu motor.

Mechanically mine has been sound. It's paid for and keeps on running. Can't ask much more of it than that. If you wanted more HP you could always drop the 3.4 in. Lots of info on this board about that swap.

You'll have a rear 10 bolt rearend which is a c-clip axle, only draw back is if you snap a shaft it'll leave you stranded without a spare. IIRC which i may not, a dana44 from a later year rodeo is an *almost* direct bolt in.

Had a '91 bought new and kept for 11yrs and over 145k, can't remember exact mileage now.

This truck was the XS model with the 3.1L, auto and 4x4, along with 31x10.5 tire's.

To say that it was a great truck, is an understatement for sure. She was a GREAT truck most definitely - never left us stranded anywhere, and it went everywhere.

Louisiana, California, Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, Nevada, Arizona - I'm sure I've forgotten some, and this was all from the great state of Colorado.

A place where this truck also seen MANY upon many high-country, rocky backroads and muddy/snowy hills.

Power was not it's best quality <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> that's for sure, especially with 5 people, a big dog, and an 11k foot climb up I-70. But, it was reliable, that's for sure.
