Anyone see any problems with wiring the dome light to a 12V power supply instead of the 5-6v it is getting? Im wiring in a led light in place of the dome light and it will not work unless it has a 12v power source but i want it controlled by the door pin swith like the dome light used to be... Also would anybody know where the power for the dome light is reduced in power? maby i can just tal=ke that out of the loop

As far as I know all Toyota dome lights operate off of 12V. If you are only getting 5-6V I would suspect a wiring problem.

What is the vehicle? Is there some kind of dome light dimmer switch maybe?

Yep, should be 12V to the light. It should be a straight contant power wire to the light then it grounds through either one of the door switches or through the manual switch on the light itself. Maybe someone installed an alarm or something that is wired into the door switches.

I run a 12V/1W Luxeon LED in my '85 dome light and it works fine:
