99 4runner Limited...

The other day we had a large amount of wet and heavy snow/slush fall in a short period of time. I had about a 20 mile drive home in the stuff, so I threw it into 4high. I didn't have any problems getting home, however when I arrived, I couldn't shift gears past neutral!

By putting pressure on the handle, I was able to engage reverse, though the stick didn't actually lock into that posiiton. I took it out of 4high, when forward and reverse a few times... No luck. I left it in neutral overnight with the parking break on.

The next day, I could shift smoothly into all gears but PARK. By the second day, no problems at all, PRD2L all good to go like the day I bought it.

Any ideas?

You know how you have to break to shift into park? I'm wondering if that sensor temporarily crapped out somehow due to the weather conditions.

Body Damage is Cool
Might check the fluid level and fluid condition in the trans. Lockout switch might have gotten wet or stuck.

What about the possibility of frozen slush being thrown up into the linkage and freezing into position....

That's a strong possibility, I was hot-dogging it pretty hard on my way home. Slush flying everywhere...

You'd think that area would be sealed off better.
