My trooper's torque converter doesn't lock until the temp guage on the dash is right between hot and cold. Under normal acceleration it will lock up right a 50 MPH, but if the engine is not warmed up it doesn't lock up and kills my MPG. Being in wisconsin it takes a while to warm up too. Anyone have this problem? It has done this since I've had it (1.5 years). Tranny fluid and filter changed this fall.

Completely normal when it's cold.

Let that truck idle for a good 5 minutes before you take off, bet it'll help.

Are you jumping on the highway within a 2-4 mile radius from home?

Yeah I go on country road for about 5 miles; then hop on the highway for another 15 miles to school. That rush of cold air at highway speed keeps it from warming up. I should rig up something to block up the grill to let it warm up faster in the winter.
Thanks for the quick reply, good to know my tranny is good
By the way, how do you like your Geolanders. Just got mine last week and love 'em.

Love them, so far they're great - I need to get them rotated though. I have about 4k on them now.

If your truck is not heating all the way up in the 20 miles that you're driving, you may want to drain/refill your antifreeze, make sure you have the right ratio.

Yeah I've been whining about this "feature" for years. I always just assumed it was an emissions thing, but not 100% sure why it does this.

A while back I read a post on here about how to disable this but I never did it and now I can't remember exactly how to do it. Something about a temp sensor on the bottom side of the intake manifold, but I have no idea which one it was.

Dave, Jerry explained it a while back as letting the engine rev a little bit higher to help with warming it up a bit faster.

As for disabling it, there are two sensors (well, several, but only 2 temp sensors) on the side of the lower intake manifold. One is for the gauge in your dash, one is for the tranny. There is a great thread with pictures, but...just pull one. If your gauge dies, plug it back in and pull the other one.

That should cause the tranny to work correctly.

I tried searching and couldn't find it. I'd really like to try this because im runnin 3k at 65 MPH before it locks up. It takes about ten minutes to warm up on the highway, but around town it only takes less than 5 minutes.
EDIT: Found this link, LINK but it is for the first gen troopers. Where is this on the 3.2?
