Getting the Wheeling Fever

was having a problem last night with the idle on my 1994 4-runner w./ 22re. The usual idle on this pig is about 5-700rpms. While sitting in my friends driveway idling away with the pedals tottaly clear the idle jumps to about 3000rpms, then drops down to about 1700-2200rpms where it fluctuates from that range to about 3300rpms. At this point I stab the gas to bring it to about 6000rpms, when I let off it dropped down to about 1000rpms where it stayed for a second and then jumped back up to the 1700-2200rpm range again where it stays for about 30seconds. After all of the above it settled down to the 250-500rpm mark (acceptable?).
The whole time it sounded as if it had a lumpy cam in it
