My buddy wants to know if you can put a double chain on a fuel injected 22R. Spacing issues? Reliablity? Cost efficient? He also thinks it will last the lifetime of the engine. Is this true?

my pretty sure LC engineering makes a kit not to cheap though

cost definitely outweighs the benefits, unless it's an '83-84 22RE where you can swap the oil pump drive spline, and order a timing set for an '81-82 22R.
on a later engine, just get a steel rail kit and forget about it.

You'll kinda run into a few issues if just installing a dual chain setup meant for the 81'-82' engines. And if you go the LCEngineering route, its just putting out alot of money for no real benefit (other than stoutness). You will give up some crankshaft torque (really low amount) due to increasing the weight of your rotating assembly...yeah it takes power to make things turn. Read HERE to learn what you can and cant do based on small design changes over the years the engine was produced. I looked into the double row chain kit from LC when I purchased my adjustable cam gear, I think it's really intended for real high lift cams that run dual or triple valve springs.
But I do recall reading that their kit includes a new modified early timing cover which has been shortened to fit the later blocks (shorter deck height than the early blocks)
I think the only advantage would be less overall chain stretch and just extends the chain replacement intervals.
If you get hold of a adjustable timing gear for the single row like I did, you can compensate for the chain stretching which makes the valve timing run late. As long as the chain is kept snug it won't break, but if the chain stretches beyond the tensioner travel, then the chain will run sloppy and eventually break.
But you could spend the money elsewhere, like gas for a month.

if you adjust the chain to run tighter on the driver's side, the tensioner might not be able to take up the slack and you'll waste the timing set anyway!
