Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have an 86 cj-7 with 258(4.2). It has a knock. I also have a 258 from an 80 cj-5. I notice the heads are different, are the blocks the same? Thanks.

Body Damage is Cool
Depending when the blocks were made (not necessarily the model year) they could have different sized head bolts. If your 80 engine was made in 79 it should have 1/2 inch head bolts. Likewise, if your 86 was made in 85 it should have 7/16 bolts. The engine in my 86 CJ was made in 84 and has 7/16 bolts in 86 they went back to 1/2 inch. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Both of the above posts are factual! The big problem is always getting the correct valve COVER when changing heads. Make sure you have one that fits the head you intend to use before installing a 4.2 head.
