What shock for 5" springs +1" lifted shackle for front of 83" #686628 01/16/06 06:55 PM

My springs should arrive this afternoon and I am wanting to know what shock everyone uses with a almost 6" total lift for the front of a toy pickup. Will I benefit by getting the shock hoops Marlin sells or can I just stick with the OEM location? My old preferences are Rancho, but that may change ? anyone

You are kinda limiting yourself keeping the stock towers.
I run Rancho rs5012's and Ford F250 towers.
You could always spend more and use the marlin towers if you want.

I agree that the stock shock locations will likely becoming the limiting factor in your articulation. Ford F-250 shock towers are relatively cheap and you can order up some long shocks (I run BBCS shocks from Poly Performance) and then place the towers in the correct location for the shocks.

If you are going to use the stock mounting, install the springs and flex the suspension without any shocks to measure the compressed and extended distances between the mounting points to figure out what size shock you need.

You can always measure for the compressed and extended lengths and pick a shock that fits:

As noted, you may find the stock shock tower limits you on compressed length, but all depends on how much flex you get out of the springs. I used to run some RS5115s with about a 4" lift.

I run 12" travel Bilstiens but should have gotten the 14" travel. I have Marlins 4" front springs and Chevy 63" rears. Marlins 4" springs gave me 6" of lift. I have the Ford shock towers and I think they are the best bang for the buck and easy to install. Are you from Ga.? I'm in Conyers, Ga.

85 4Runner, R151F, Marlins dual case, high steer, and frnt springs. Chevy rears, TJM bumper w/Ramsey winch, custom rear w/swing out tire carrier and rock rails. BudBuilt cross member w/ 2" drivetrain lift, 33" Boggers. 5:71 gears & F&R spool.
