Why electric? I have a 14 inch electric but only so I can turn it off when mudding. It wont cool any better, and probably worse since you wont have a shroud. Also, my fan blade and shroud was broke and it would have cost just as much to replace them through Toyota as it was for the electric fan conversion.
over heating problems are most probably caused by a bad head gasket, clogged radiator, or a bad water pump.

im just sick of replacing clutches. im not overheating. they dont like it when you rev your motor to hell. they end up dead or stuck on. ive been through 2 in the last year. and i like the ability to choose when the fan kicks on.

I used to run the Flex-a-lite, I think it was rated 2800 CFM. Did not cool quite as well as the stock fan clutch, but was sufficient. Here are the FAL fan specs:

http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/toyota-4x4.html

On the fan clutches, I have found the Aisin part from the dealer are 10X better than the no-name parts you get elsewhere. I had one from NAPA puke all the silicone oil out all over the engine after less than 1 year's use. Still trying to clean that oil off the underside of the hood. Even after 7 years, dust will stick to the places that silicone oil splattered.

If you've got a three row? than a lower power fan will work. A german fan from the junkyard will work.

I have a BlackMagic but its overkill and cost close to $200. It only comes on in heavy traffic and almost never in the winter times.

in my case i will stop at a light and sit for 30 seconds. at takeoff it will spin up then fade out. now progressively it is staying on more and more. its on all the time now. i know im not overheating. it has happened to me where the fan never kicks on which can be much worse.

I run a 3 core radiator and a 16" fan. If you get wet or mud, make sure it's switched. Has to be a fairly thin fan, however..

I've seen the temperature controlled mechanisms fail time and again, I will no longer run one. Just run a good sized 30A relay.
