Recently my check engine light came on. I went to Autozone and got them to pull the code and it came up as "P0174 - System too lean (Bank 2)"

Additionally, it has been surging occassionally at start up, but then idles fine. Also, the vehicle drives fine.

So, I have read several other posts about the IMG and EGR valve, and I kind of suspect an O2 sensor. Have any of you gotten this code before or have any ideas on how to fix it?

well, at lunch today, my check engine light started blinking and it was shifting hard and running on 5 cylanders. So, I ran it by the Isuzu place and they checked it out. Turns out the 4th cylander plug was fouled and the driver's side O2 sensor was shorted out. Because it was shorted out, the computer thought it was running lean and fouled the plug.

The great thing is that they had a used O2 sensor that they took off someones car and they diagnosed it and installed the sensor for free! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> All it cost me was about an hour!

Anyways, so far so good. It seems to have taken care of everything.

Glad it was an easy (cheap) fix.

Had basically same problems.

turned out to be leaking IMG tricking computer and sensors.

replaced IMG under warranty, running fine now.

yeah, I ended up replacing the IMG too. But now it is running great. I don't understand the point of that 1/4" carbon fiber spacer... seems like a bandaid fix to a design oversight. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

didn't do the teardown, so am not up to speed on the spacer, or if my 01 3.2 even has it.

My Haynes doesn't show it. Where is it?

Funny you spiked one code, mine showed PO174 plus four more.

Are you losing any oil before 1k miles? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

the gasket itself has he spacer. It has an aluminum gasket, 1/4" carbon fiber spacer, then another aluminum gasket. They whole thing is considered "the intake manifold gasket"

yes, mine eventually showed more codes, but I can't remember them.

Yes I am burning oil, like most all Isuzus. Basically, the piston drains get clogged and the oil sits in the cylinder and burns. At about 1500 miles, I have to put in a quart or so... nothing really can be done about it. At least according to Isuzu.
