Getting the Wheeling Fever
This might be crazy ,Guys, but has anyone ever done a changeover from 2WD to 4WD on a 2000 rodeo 5 speed 3.2?
I have already priced a used 5 speed tranny with transfer case, but really need to know if I would need to consider more than the Tranny/transfer,Front Diff, both LH and RH axles, front hubs, front driveshaft, and probably a different length rear driveshaft.?
I would assume that all the mounting points would already be there, and it would be a matter of fitment ,and a lot of time......
Let me know if I am crazy, and just need to sell the 2WD and find another 4WD....I don't mind a little work..Thanks...

I'm pretty sure everyone on the board will tell you to sell the 2-wheel drive and buy a 4-wheel drive. It's a costly and difficult conversion. There are no dumb or crazy questions. You're doing your homework and I commend you. This board is a great souce of info.

I bet not as many as you might think Pete!

Yes, it's a little work, but a good candidate for SAS !

Im pretty sure the front a-arms for the 2wd are different than the ones for the 4 wheel drive. I also agree that the general consensus is to just buy a 4wd truck to start with. Especially with that new of a truck. It would be alot easier if you were going with SAS, but its going to be alot of work, either way.

Oh yeah, these blue links....money saving feature? Kindof annoying, but if it helps out the wire....its ok with me, i guess.

Don't forget the 2000 is going to have air operated solenoids and electronic controls necessary to engage the 4wd that are a little bit more complicated than just bolting on a bunch of components. Wiring harnesses and tubes etc.

Migiht want to also check wether the ecm has any say in 4wd engagement. I know the system is smart enough not to let you engage it without going slow enough.

Thanks Guys--any input is appreciated--I haven't even thought of ECM,etc..
I might be leaning toward finding a 4WD...Don't really want to SAS on one this new...

OT- I don't see those blue links. I think you guys have some crappy software that installed itself. /OT

I would say definitely sell the 2wd and get another 4wd. You may be attached to the truck now, but when it's torn up and you're stuck, out of money and frustrated, it wont be so endearing.

The admins decided to take the blue links out, cause they were linking to Irrelevant information. They really were there. Look on the yota off topic boards where they are discussing it.

Back to the regularly schedualed Zu-talk.
