Getting the Wheeling Fever
I was wandering if i can run my 4" backspaced rims on my 1989 toyota pickup. I am putting a 4" trailmaster kit (used)and was wandering what to do. trailmater says not to exceed 3.75" and superlift says 4.5". I dunno, i figured someone on here had the same experience and can help me out.

You could always try it, or add a 1/4" wheel spacer if needed (4"-.25"=3.75"). The different lift kits probably have slightly different designs of the steering knuckle and other parts that account for the backspacing differences.

What size wheel?

If it's a 15x10 and you're planning to run a 12.50 tire, I'm 99% you'll be fine, but a 15x8 would probably be too close.

They are just trying to make sure your tire doesn't contact the knuckle adapter. I know of people running 12.50 tires with those lifts on 15x8s with 3.75 BS and it's close. But also ones running 10.50s on a 4.5 BS wheel that clear. A 10 inch wheel leaves less sidewall on sides and that's why I'm pretty sure it would work.

But, like Roger said, if not, you could always do a small spacer.

my '88 has a 4" trailmaster. with stock tires (235/75r15) and stock rims, the tire hit the tie-rod end.

however, the same wheels and tires did not rub on my buddy's truck with a 4" superlift.

I'd try the tires without the IFS lift first. With some trimming you should definitely be able to make them work with what you have and save the money for gears.

If not, you can add the IFS and lower the T-bars for a better ride.
