Hello all. I was just about to replace my speed sensor, but a transmission mechanic told me he thinks its my speedo, because it works sometimes. He says if its the sensor, it would either be way off, or not work at all. I don't have a manual, but he said that I could check the OHMs on my sensor and know for sure. Anyone know what the OHMs should be for a 92 3.2 Auto, 4L30E? I can get a cluster for under $60, should I just replace it? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

The speed sensor became intermittent on my dad's 92 Trooper as well. If the speedo was dead for a number of miles eventually the ECU shut the engine off and he had to ,pull over and restart. I'd replace the speed sensor ASAP to avoid a problem on the highway.

Wow. I can ride forever when mine goes out. It might even come back on if I ride long enough. Do you know where your dad got the sensor, and how much it cost?

St. Charles and I don't recall what it cost. I just remember that it looked different that the one on my 94 Trooper. I have a spare of the later style that I could offer for testing, but it won't do you much good.

Thanks Tad, but I do believe yours is different. I got a new cluster pretty cheap, and the guy said that he would give me my money back if I don't need it, so I'm going to try that on Saturday. Thanks a lot.

Well, I didn't get around to replacing the cluster this weekend, but I'm starting to doubt that it's in the cluster, unless its a short or something. Now I can be sitting still and the speedo will jump up to about 70, and bounce back and forth. I'm still gonna change it out when I get a chance, but I'm kind of doubtful now. Thanks for the replies.
