anybody have to replace the power steering pressure feed line (high pressure side) yet?

just noticed the rubber portion close to my steering gear box has started to seep and drip. i originally thought it was metal line leaking b/c it is so badly rusted, but it is the rubber hose. for some reason, the return line has much less rust.

i bet it is $$ due to the one piece design being so long and sort of complicated in the bends and transitions.

maybe i'm the first to have this problem.

just called carrol...$350 (list $435)...ouch!

maybe time to visit a hydraulic hose company for a custom job.

AFAIK, that is pretty uncommon. The 20 year old lines in my Runner have never leaked, and I'm not sure I've ever really heard anyone online complain over the years...

I know those things are expensive (a lot like A/C lines). Yes, local shop is probably cheaper. They can reuse the hard line and install new soft line. I'd wash it off and make extra sure that's where the leak is first though.

I've got a power steering leak somewhere on my '93 but I haven't been able to track it down yet. Looks like it could be the fitting or hose at the bottom of the reservoir, but I'm not 100% sure.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
My 93 T-100 sprung a leak from the return line ( i think) from the ABS actuator to the power steering resivor. Simple little low pressure metal tube about 8" long held on with one 10 mm bolt . Tube rusted out and was leaking. Called the dealer and it not available seperatly!! Only available with the actuator- About $800. I patched it temp. with a rubber hose and aclamp. Went online to a national junk yard finder service. After sending out about 20 emails with a pic from the shop manual, I found the tube in Nebraska for $20 shipped!! Took about 5 min to change. I love my truck but rust is slowly killing it.

Go get one fabbed. We have an awesome industrial hardware place up here that does that kind of work and more.

i called the industrial/hydraulic custon hose shops around here and found they typically do not make hoses for automobiles. they claim the end fittings are the problem...they do not stock automobile fittings. maybe i'll try some other shops.

the line leaking real bad now, so i gotta change it. now the main leak is in the rusted metal park. of course the rubber hose is still seeping. for some reason, the high pressure line is extremely rusted, while the low pressure line is barely rusted...go figure.

anybody deal with these power steering lines yet? or just my bad luck?

it is the high pressure line, so my options are limited i guess.

tom
