I've been hauling alot of wood and bottoming my suspension. I'm thinking of getting air shocks. What do you think?

Are you going to continue to haul wood over the years, or is this just a one shot deal?
I haul wood all the time; I just don't overload the truck.

If you have the offroad suspension (TRD) then it's definitely soft. Put a measured 1000# of dirt in mine once and it was basically bottomed. I bought a set of the Firestone air bags for mine but to install them you're supposed to cut off the rubber bottom stopper on the rear axle. That part irks me so I haven't installed it yet, not sure if I'm going to or not. But from what I hear they do really help the load capacity.

Have to over load it. Right?
It gets a heavy load half the time and I'll most likely keep doing that since it's a half load when full.(ya know..ruin something to save 5 minutes)I have bought some property close to my house and a outside wood burner, plus I manage alot of other property, so I'll be hauling wood til I die and I'll have this truck til I die. That is if I don't ruin it hauling wood. So I'm looking to adjust the truck to my work practices, and still keep normal handling when not hauling. I thought about the air bags/bumpers. I'm just not sure yet. I'm hauling 2/10 of a mile and sometimes 5 miles. This is my truck I'm not buying a worker. This is my worker.

Check out this thread. ZUK told me that his buddy hauled 1400# of brick in the back of his 2nd gen truck and it didn't hit the overloads. If ya think you like it, PM ZUK and he'll hook ya up. Oh, yours is spring over on the rear....right?

You might consider air bags from Air Lift Company. I used them on my 4Runner and will be getting a set for my new Taco soon. I also carry heavy loads quite often and am looking at some utility equipment for the bed of my truck. New springs and air bags are the direction I'm heading.
Zuk's application is really quite ingenious, I like it!

I believe it's because your force is from the other direction; not downward onto the leaf pack.
To the poster, given what you'll be doing, I think I'd go with the coil upgrade.

I got new springs out of mississippi and they are life time, I can now haul a lot more with out bottoming out You should look at ZUK's mod too.....it'll ensure that you'll never have to replace another set of leaf springs....EVER!! Look at the thread I posted right above yours and read through it, (long I know) on second thought just skim basically the coils take MOST of the weight off of the leaves, they both SHARE the load, allowing you to carry alot more, and providing for alot less wear on your current setup. If you wanna ask some of the specifics, feel free to PM me.
