22RE Idle screw spring and o-ring... #697613 02/17/06 07:18 AM

I went wheelin' this past weekend and had my idle adjustment screw pop out on the trail (on my '85 22re). I did not have the spring that goes under the screw, it probably was lost on the trail somewhere, but luckily the screw itself found a nice home next to the screw housing *whew!*. So after looking at the dealer's parts diagram, I could not find a listing for the spring nor the o-ring that goes on the end of the idle adjustment screw. Anyone got a part number or something similar that I can use? I know that vacuum leaks have occured when this o-ring wears out, I want to replace it cuz it looks a bit worn...

I'm not familiar with the RE but if you can describe to me where the part is, I'm lookin at the EPC now and I can maybe give you a part number.

If it is, I'm afraid the EPC dosen't call out a seperate number for the screw and the spring. Here's a pic for you:

Part number for the idle up diaphragm is: 88606-14050

Okay, guess I wasn't descriptive enough ... Look at the second image Roger posted. There's an adjustment screw in an elevated nub to the left of the hose clamp that holds the air intake tube to the throttle body. I'll post pics later, gotta go to work...

If your talking about the idle adjustment screw, then you lucked out because there's no spring under that adjustment screw.

The resistance of the O-ring seal is what holds/stops the screw from moving.

Just put a new O-ring on it, then re-adjust your idle and you should be back in business

Yup, I was referring to the idle adjustment screw. I was wondering 'bout the spring - guess there never was one

Now are you replacing it with an OEM o-ring or just going with the nearest size from NAPA or sumptin'?

Yeah, you can go to Napa and get a couple different sizes.

Just make sure you don't go too big or you'll cut up the O-ring as you screw it in.

Select a size that fits nice and snug when you screw it in, then use some silicone grease on the O-ring before screwing it in.

I use the silicone grease because it doesn't attack the rubber material and the silicone grease doesn't melt like some lithium soap based greases.

Kewl...

But does anyone know if there's an OEM replacement for this o-ring? I'm just trying to add to the wealth of parts info...

I couldn't find a listing in the EPC so I'm guessing no, unless you go ask the dealer and they prove me wrong
