While running a compression test I decided to check the plug gap. Unfortunetly, my wire guage only goes down to 0.040in and the manual calls for 0.031in. Can I use a feeler guage instead? The manual definitely shows a wire type guage being used on the plugs but is there any difference between the feeler type guage and the wire type guage? Using the feeler guage the gaps appear to be around 0.041in and consistent between all of them.

sounds like you've got a plug gauge for american vehicles with high energy ignition systems. i know craftsman makes 2 types, a standard(has gaps from around .018-045 or so), and a high energy type that has much larger gaps. i've got both, only a couple bucks each.

a feeler gauge will work fine, though, i like a wire gauge personally.

Yeah, that gauge was actually for my bike. I assumed they were the same. I was just puzzled why the gap was so large. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
