Have you checked the gasket-mating surface of the block? Make sure there are no gouges, dents, or an irregularity to the surface

My '86 22R regularly hits almost 75psi, and no problems yet, I wouldn't thing that 50 psi is bad.....

yeah mine goes over 80 psi regularly. ive never heard of more oil pressure being bad.

36 to 71 lbs at 3000 is what the manual says. If you are blowing gaskets at 50 psi then you have a cheap filter or damaged sealing flange.

this may sound stupid , but I have seen it before.

same thing was happining to a guy up here , and we found that there was an old oring that was "glued" to the oil filter mounting surface . when he put on a new filter , it was on top of the "glued" gasket .... oil would blow out ... he did this twice ...

you might just check your oil filter mount surface for damage .

the gauge we used went to 85psi and it pegged out. the worry we have now is whether th oil pressure is to the point to where it will cause the journal surface to score forcing them against the bearings rather than I know to much pressure will do that too. Rather than having that thin layer of oil in between.

gasket surface is fine no damage or deformities. smooth as glass

right now nothing is stupid and everything that is said will be done and tried I am out of options short of taking the engine back out put bullet into the block and start with another one that is where I am at right now. I have been fighting to get this started for over a month and no luck as of yet. but to much oil pressure is a problem as of now so anything said will be taking seriously into consideration and tried.

What grade oil are you running, 10w30 etc?

On a high volume oil pump you can see anywhere from 75-90 psi @ the upper rpm range.

The only other possibility I can think of other than tight bearing clearances would be the timing chain dampener which has a bleed off hole that lubes the chain by squirting oil out onto the lower portion of the chain.

This bleed off hole also prevents over tensioning of the timing chain which will wear down the plastic wear pad prematurely.

The dampener is not a tensioner, it's just controls (dampens) the slack side of the chain.

If you used an RTV silicone sealant when you installed the chain dampener and blocked up the oil feed to the dampener with the RTV then that would cause a rise in the oil pressure, but there would be some chain noise because the chain wouldn't be dampened properly.
