Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm looking at the possible purchase of a 1996 Trooper with ~ 145k miles. I have a 1995 SOHC with ~ 200k miles so I have an idea how the truck will age. The one thing worrying me is that the 96 is a manual while my 95 is an automatic. I understand clutch life is almost entirely dependent on the style and type of driving - but is there an overall estimate of how long a clutch in one of these trucks will last and how big of a deal are they to change?

Body Damage is Cool
I'd think thats better. I like manuals better. My clutch lasted over 200K miles. Drive the trooper and see out it feels. My trans has over 270K miles on it. Replacing the clutch isn't that bad. I'm not sure about the 96, but I can get a new clutch for my trooper for about $150. I would guess that if you had to replace it, it would run $500 to $600 to have somone replace it?? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Clutch life is hard to estimate. If you wre to pay, I bet it would run close to $1000 for parts and labor. I'd definitely recommned the OEM clutch over any aftermarket brand.

Roll Me Over
With all of the people that I know of in the past few yeas that their auto tranny has died, I think I'd rather have a manual as well.

I can change a clutch. I can't however rebuild an auto tranny. Of course I could swap one out but that's $$$$.

I'll be changing my fluid and adding an external filter and cooler very soon.
