Anyone taken their sway bar off compleety? Me and my buddy were looking over the rig tonight after class and we were thingking that if we take the sway bar off, then it would let the suspension work better. I am sure it would be a pain to drive ont he street, but has any one done this and can give me first hand input. Any help will be greatly appricated!

I removed my front swaybar completely more than a year ago. The Troop seemed pretty "tight" after that and I have since then discarded it. However, I do drive the Trooper pretty conservatively (I have other things for adrenaline rushes) and take my corners in a similar manner. Others seem to fling their rigs around corners, I just slowly drive it through. I'm glad the swaybar is gone.
In fact, next time that I have the front skid plate off, I'm going to cut the metal mounts off.

Robby,
Personally, IÆd rather have disconnects.
But weÆre talking about something like, what, maybe six bolts? --- Give it a shot and see if you can live with the way it handles without the sway barà You can always re-install it (like I did), right?
But man-o-man, it sure did free things up off-road!

Six Isuzus, so far... still have three of them.

matt over at indy 4x got mine measured last week for the disconnects. Maybe he has those in this week. That may be another option for you as well. Your truck may be different than mine being a 1st gen. I haven't spent much time around those.

When I first bought my Rodeo, I was out wheeling and ripped the swaybar from the frame. I took it off, and never looked back.
You will experience a little more body roll, but once you get used to it then it's no big deal. My girlfriend drives the truck every day and doesnt have any issues with it.
Adding a set of stiffer rate torsion bars will just about get rid of any extra body roll that you pick up from removing the sway bar.

Well you all are telling me what i want to hear! . I got a set of stiffer torsion bars at the shop and ready to go. There are two porbs with disconnects. 1. The links are so damn short that it would be hard to fit much of any kind of cuppler in there. and 2. a way to secure teh saw bar once dissconected...the way the bar is shaped, and how low our front end sists (due to IFS of course) that think would get in the way if it was in much any other postion that it is in now. So it looks like the bar is coming off! I too drive ol' read with a gentel foot and hand...I have a stang for fish taling around turns and straight line drags

Hey Robbie. I get a decent amount of sway and drift if I remove front AND rear simultaneously. More than I liked. I reattached the front and drive with the rear removed and its fine for me. I never tried with the front removed and the rear attached.
Why don't you unhook them, zip tie them out of the way, drive around and if you don't like it, reattach the fronts or rears and then give that a shot. Whichever ones you can deal without, remove. You may save yourself some work while you find a combo that works for you.
Individual feedback will vary with individual driving styles. later, -j

Us 1st gen'rs don't have rear sways I've never messed with mine, other than to install poly bushings. Now that it will have limited road use, I'll have to experiment. You'll see better results removing the front swaybar IMO. The rear of my Rodeo flexes a LOT anyway, where as the front needs all the help it can get.
