I'm new to this forum. My 95 LS 3.0 went Metal to Metal yesterday on the front brake pads/rotors,......so, Looks like I will be replacing the front rotors (warped) and pads a bit sooner than I expected.

I'm assuming that the pad replacement will be straight forward procedure.....But having now turned the rotors once a few years ago and they have now warped again,.....I guess I will now replace with new rotors.

When I last turned the rotors,....I know that there was some additional procedure that took a minute or two to remove the front rotors.........maybe removing a retainer clip or something similar..........can someone give me some details here?

I Know the original rotors were replaced twice by the original owner and when I bought it....at 148,000 miles, the rotors were again warped.

I'm thinking that this is an engineering issue on the 95 LS.

Is there a better,...more warp resistant brake rotor available somewhere?

Where is the best place to buy new rotors..........will probably replace all four (front and rear)

Then I will have to move on to my leaky valve covers......otherwise.............what a great truck it has been with now 186,000 miles on it and virtually NO unexpected repairs (one plug wire had to be replaced)

Also, have not yet found a Haynes repair manual or similar for the 95 3.0 LS. Can anyone suggest a source??

Need a Spot
'95' is a very good model year. I have 96k miles and have the original rotors. I've replaced a lot of front brake pads, I think the rears twice.
Yeah, he's been bullit proof all these years, except for that IAC motor. They don't build them like this anymore. ever looked under a ford explorer or a chevy blazer?
I hate that the day is coming when I may not be able to fix it.
take care of the ol '95', mine has never left me stranded.

Thanks !

I am assuming that the front brake setup for the LS is the same as the SR - if so, removing the front rotors is not so straightforward. You will need to remove the front hubs as the rotor is attached on the inside face. The rotor is held in place by the wheel studs, so these will need to be pressed/hammered (carefully ) out first.

The rears are simple - but make sure you soak the retaining screw in PB Blaster (or equivalent) first. Make sure the handbrake is released and use 2 bolts in the holes in the rotor to "push" the rotor off.

Doing a search is your best bet. I recall the front brake subject being discussed several times, once fairly recently. This site has an amazing amount of useful info, you just have to do a little hunting for it sometimes.

Yes, you will need to remove the front hub/rotor from the axle. You will need a 4x4 tool to reinstall the retainer for the wheel bearings. You can probably get them apart without the tool. A Chevy 4x4 tool with 4 of the six teeth ground off will work.

I think the original Mitsu Rotors are very good. I have almost 160k miles on my original rotors and I have never even had them turned.

Rotor surface is still very smooth. My brakes last about 40k miles.

Winston is correct. The chinese rotors are better than the American OEM. Consider replacing the calipers with rebuilt "loaded" calipers from NAPA. They come completely assembled with new stuff.

I do not understand what you mean?

The OEM rotors are from Japan.
