Getting the Wheeling Fever

My 1995 LS wagon has had the motor replaced by the girl who formerly owned it.She told me that the new engine is out of a wreaked 2000 or 2001 Montero.I looked thru the archives for info on how to id Mitsubishi engines but didn't find anything.Do you guys have any information about how to find out which engine I've got.The plenum says "3000" but it maybe from the old motor as this maybe a 3500 unit.It hasn't got the traditional distributor as is on my '91 .
1995 Montero LS, KYBs, Michelin 31s. 2009 Kia Borrego EX. (Wife's wheels.)

Yours is the 3.0L V6 engine with direct ignition. In order to have changed over to the 3.5L engine, you'd also have to swap over the computer and all the wiring which would be exremely obvious if someone had done. That's to say it's not just as easy as taking one engine out and putting another engine in.
