I know there is a new post about getting lift on a gen 1 about every week, so here is this weeks.

If you crank the t-bar you can get lift up front but its limited. Now is it limited by the t-bar or the control arms? Has anyone looked into putting a shim between the t-bar and mounts to lower the t-bar thereby raising the frame? Also how much can we flex the control arms down before you destroy the cv's and make it impossible to align the vehicle? Lastly if I did a 1" body lift what problems is my shift linkage, steering linkage, etc going to pose, will it have to be adjusted or will it be fine?

Ok nother question. Budget lift swaped gen II LWB springs into a Gen I SWB. Will gen II LWB springs provide lift in a gen I LWB?

Have you gotten under your truck and looked at the design? I HIGHLY suggest you do so.

The control arms and CV operation angles are the limiting factors. The only way to get more lift out of it is to drop the IFS as a whole, OR a combination of IFS drop / new control arms.

A 1 inch body lift is pretty minimal, and you MIGHT have to re adjust your linkages.

On the shift linkage all I did was loosen a nut before the body lift. Then after the lift tightened it back down. No steering linkage issues at all. This was on a 2" body lift.

For me the torsion bars have not been the limiting factor. Even if they were such as if they are worn out you can reindex them which some people have had to do.

I am lost on your shimming Idea sorry. But if you look at some lift kits for IFS such as on chevey trucks alot of the time you will see where people have brought the torsion bars down away from the frame. I dont think that is a good Idea though because it seems to me like they would easily get damaged on rocks or other things you cross. Now if you can drop the whole front suspension including the axle that would be great but then what do you do with the torsion bars that does not put them in harms way? That has been aswered with one kit but it is hard to obtain and get into this country and there are questions as to if it would fit a Gen I or not.

When you put on Gen II upper contol arms it helps the CV angles a little if you have cranked the Tbars enough the tops of your tires start leaning in like mine did. Of course I only have one of the Gen II uppers on now so one wheel leans in at the top and the other slightly out since I have not made final adjustments.

Ya I looked at it a bit but it has been a long time. Since Im a drafter and work at a metalworking shop Im considering building something to lift the front and needed some info so when I pull the truck in to measure and design I know what I need to avoid.

Body Damage is Cool
The 1 1/2" front lift by cranked torsion bars is about all you can do. Moving the Tbars will not help as the limit is the bump stops. I removed mine. An adaptor could be designed and made to "lower" the upper ball joints where they press into the upper A frame. This would give you more downwards articulation.

IF I were going to design an IFS drop kit, I would just try and copy the SUN kit that was recently imported from tialand.
