Hello everyone,
and yes I, searched but didn't find any info on the swap. I, have a 95 Yota with a dead 3.0 and would like to swap it for a 22RE. Has anyone attempted this, any help would be apreciated.

are you kidding me? there isn't any info on this site about it b/c the 22re is more sought after and a better engine than the 3.0. not to say it is unreliable or anything but it is a lot easier to work on and easier to get power out of. not to mention the head gasket recall. if you are going to swap engines, go w/ the 7mge or 7mgte from a supra. i also think it is an easier swap b/c you can use the 22r tranny. you just have to get the right bell housing.

Yes I,m swapping out the 3.0.

I, am very familiar with the 22RE and that is why I, wanted to do the swap. I've read about the 7mge swap but haven't really thought about it, might look into it again.

Have you thought about a 3.4 swap? That's what I will most likely do when my 3.0 dies if it ever does (hope not for a long time!).

yeah, im retarded and skim through posts haha. damn add. but yeah, ive read thats its just as easy to swap in a 7mge as it is to swap a 22re in a 3.0 truck. just about the same amount of wiring involved i think. you would have to get a new tranny and transfer case either way.

Your other option, as mentioned, the 3.0 to 3.4 swap; a few old linkys; toggle them, and you can refer back to them via your 'my home':

Q's one

3.4 kit option

CORunners writeup and dipstick issues

There is also an FSM sticky'd in the Taco section which has 3.4 stuff in it, so help is never too far away. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the replies and the links. It seems that the 3.4 is the most feasible swap, now all I, need are the parts.

www.car-part.com is a good place to start. Look for 95's on up; I believe the last year you could get a manual was '97; you'll need that ECU along with the rest of the goodies.

actually being that the 4runner and tacoma had the same engines and trannies, you can get the 3.4/manual all the way until 2004(after that they went to the 4.0). last year that 4runners could be had with a manual was 2000.
