Hey guys, I have a customer who wants to pay his bill with a partial trade for an 92 xcab 4x,v6,auto,160k. It needs both front fenders as it looks like he tried to sqeeze into somewhere he shouldn't have. I don't know much about these rigs so what do you think? I told him i would give him $500 for it. I have an carbed 85 long bed shop truck that I started to mod(crossover steering, allpro suspension front and rear) and was wondering if i should swap rigs or just swap the rear end and the wheels (15x10s instead of my 15x8s).Is this a good rearend to get? Thanks in advance Mike

DO A LEAKDOWN TEST ON IT; the 3.0 is notorious for its head gasket recall; you can always part it out and sell the rest of it here if the engine is shot. Make sure that thing has a clear title first!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
SWAP RIGS? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Keep that 85 dude; the L/B's are hard to come by these days.
My plugged nickel.

It is definately worth the partial trade, you could easily get $1500-2000 if it is running and onle cosmetically beat up, a clan one can bring a price of $5000. Since you have already started modding the '85, I wouldn't swap the parts over, it would be alotr of work to get the '92 to the same point the '85 is at now. Also the 3.0 has a HG problem, can be fixed using the right parts, i.e. making sure the heads and block are flat, swap to headers, and us high quality metal gaskets, and swapping from head bolts to studs. Even if you did this, the 4-spd auto sucks most of the power that the 3.0 has, also adding dual t-cases runs about $1000 more for the 3.0 than the 22r's If it runs and only needs the fenders replaced, I would replace them and resale the truck. You can get new unpainted fenders for about $45-100 each, you could also probably find used color matching fenders for about the same or less. Check out craigslist.com for your area/region or local wrecking yards, pirate4x4, Marlincrawler for someone parting out a rig.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

That truck may have come with the factory 4.88 gears. It has the right combination of stuff, '92 and later model, V-6 and auto. All that's missing is whether it came with 31s or not.
Gear code is going to be the best bet to know for sure, although it's not always reliable.
Anyway, for $500, if it has 4.88s, those and the rest of the parts should make you more back in cash after you part it out.
Just make sure it's not stolen.

Well he dropped of the truck today for me to look it over. It's a deluxe not an SR5. It seems to run good and has good power(It will smoke my 84) despite being an auto(maybe has 4.88s?). The body is pretty beat up. No front bumper or valance. Needs fenders. Clear is popping off every panel. It leaks oil(looks like from the valve covers). The the temp guage reads straight up(is that where it should be?). The truck shows up in toyotas system getting the head gaskets in 97. I'm gonna give him $400 for it. I'm liking the roomier interior and it feels and sounds so much better when you shut the door compared to the 84.Hmmm,I have an 83 front axle sitting in the shop...... Thats all i need another project.Anything else i should look for? Thanks for the input, Mike

RUN THAT VIN to make sure it doesn't have a lien before you make any offers, if you haven't already http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/vin/ Should have gear code, assuming stock.

It was leined at the tow yard. Thats is where i'm getting it from.Thats where i got my 85.They lein everything that comes in right away because alot of cars are abandoned, arrests etc..He tows for the city, chp and police so he picks up alot of cars. He has to store them at his building and leins them so he can assume ownership so he can send them to the junk yard. That is where this one was heading. He gets so many cars he usually doesn't try to resell them because he doesn't have the space and junks alot of good running cars.My 85 was left in the street to long and they never came to pick it up.This 92 was a DUI arrest and he never came to pick it up also.
