Okay, after replacing my fan pulley bracket and changin' out my valve cover gaskets, I now have another problem to deal w/. My truck has a rough idle and take off accompanied w/ a new feature never seen (at least to me on a Toyota): Backfire!!!

I checked all of my vac. lines in accordance w/ the FSM and all seems to check out. I checked all the electrical connections before I put the intake chamber back on and all seemed well there too. What are some areas I can recheck this weekend so's I can get my rig up and running again?? I'll undoubtably be pulling that f'n AIC back off again this weekend...fun fun!

My poor truck sounds like a tractor now!

Thanks!

Did you take the spark plug wires off? Sounds like the firing order is messed up....as in wonrg wire to the wrong plug.

Could also be an air/vacuum leak somewhere on the intake or air hose from the filter. You can run something like propane around the seams and see if you can find out if the engine smooths out. Mine will backfire if I have a leak at the air intake hose between the AFM and throttle body.

You nailed it! I had the 1-3-5 firing order all screwed up! Not good. Kinda figured it was something simple that I overlooked, but shame on me for wasting up forum space (kinda like right now w/ this reply )!

Thanks for the responses 4Crawler and Corunner
