I have a 92 toyota pickup 2wd. Let me start with that I know this is a 4wd fourm but I figured that you might be the best place to ask this question. Back to what I started to say... I have a 92 Toyota Pickup 2wd, DX, Extended Cab, 6' Bed, 2.4L 4CYL engine W/ 5 speed manual transmission. I recently threw a rod and am now need a new engine. The Question is what engines can I put in there. I already know I can put in any of the 22RE between 89-95 From both a pickup and a 4-Runner. Now I have heard of people using the 84 Buick 3.8L V6 as a replacement for the Toyota 4cyl engine in a 89-95 pickup because the 84 buick 3.8 will bolt to the 5 speed manual for the 4cyl engine. What I am wondering is with out too much modification can I put the 2.7L I4 that toyota put in there Tacoma's 95-2001(I think they stoped in 2001) or the 3.4L V6 From the T100, Tacoma, Tundra. A Little help please.
My preference would be to stick with a toyota engine, and I do not want anything smaller then I already had. So preferably Somthing Larger than a 2.4L with more HP than 116 and more torq than 140 ft/lbs (i think that's what mine was rated at). any help would be nice

2.7L 's exhuast and intake are on opposite sides. It can be done though.
you can also put in a 5mge or a 7mge inline 6 (supras or cressidas) they bolt up to the w56 tranny.

OK, I am aware that the 2.7L has the same number of HP as the 3.0L avalable for the truck. It seems very hard to find the 2.4L I4 and 3.0L V6 for my truck. What about the 3.4L what am I likely to run into on putting it in? Also whats the chalange going to be on bolting up the I6?

Never heard of anyone putting the 3.4 into a 2wd truck. As mentioned, the Supra swap is another option.
You Google yet?

A lot of the T100 and Tundra's with the 3.4L are 2wd. Anyway here is the link to the place where I heard of a guy using a buick 3.8L http://www.off-road.com/toyota/buick_v6_swap.htmlI also heard of a guy using a Ford Mustang V8 but I don't remember where but he went through alot to get it working right.

Probably not what you want to do, but you can put in a turbo diesel (2L-T would be easiest) from an overseas Toyota. Check out www.toyotadiesel.com, and www.jarcoinc.com.It's not cheap, but it'll be a complete bolt-in, and you'll have no ECU to deal with.

the 22RE shouldn't be too hard to find unless you live in the middle of nowhere. any 22R or 22R-E from 1985-1995 will work, you can just bolt your manifolds and sensors to it and call it good.
may have to swap oil pans though, if it came from a 4x4 truck or 4runner.
