Getting the Wheeling Fever
Are there any differences between the rocker arms and shafts from an 84 22R vs. an 85 22RE? I need to either take them out of my 84 or 85 and I need to know which 4Runner to start yanking the motor out for my rebuild

Also, what's the best way to clean up the rocker arms. I don't plan on buying new ones with my new EB 268 cam. I've heard emory cloth on the arms?

>>>*Those should interchange nicely, all the setups using the aluminum rocker arms are the same.

Inspect the pads carefully, note that sometimes there is a small groove etched sideways on the inside edge of the pad.

This is caused by the cam lobe nose as it reached maximum lift. That can make a noise in operation. We use a strapping tool to rearc the followers, any machine shop can do this if they need to be refaced.

One point often missed is that is takes time for cool oil to refill the assembly at startup, and begin oil flow through the rockers, so use lots of good lube and make sure of good oil pressure at startup to avoid wear on the exhaust lobes.

Also note that oil flows through #3 rocker shaft tower, #2 & #3 can be reversed and if this happens the cam will fail...*EB
