Toyota Stealer Classic!! #64279 05/27/03 05:11 AM

Well I've got a stealer story classic on my hands! My 93 Toyota Truck threw a rod, or so the stealer said, back in Feb. of this year. They wanted 6K$ for a new engine to fix my truck. I passed on it and decided to go the route of a 3.4L swap. Got some pieces together for the swap and this past weekend I trailered my truck down to my uncle's shop for the swap to begin. Well, just for fun he decided to pull the oil pan and check out the bottom end of the engine, to see this broken rod. Well, he called me last night and said, the bottom end of the truck looks fine, but the headgasket has a crack in it. Well, he buys a headgasket this morning and puts it on the truck and what do you know, it starts on the first crank, after sitting for over 4 months. I cannot believe the stealer actually said I needed an entire engine for $6000 and my uncle fixed it for $60. The name of this dealer is Toyota on Nicholasville, it's in Central KY. For those of us around Central Ky, never take your vehicle to this dealer, unless you want poor, unreliable service. We tried to call the dealer a minute ago, but both managers in were busy at the time. Good for them, I might get calmed down some! I really cannot believe this happened! Just wanted to put this out there! Chris

Wow man, that's gross incompetencve. You should report them to Toyota USA, although nothing will probably come out of that...

That happened with me and my auto tranny. It was havin' trouble shifiting into first, and it would slip out of gear time to time There was also a grinding noise. I took it down to the local stealer, and they said that my tranny would need replacing, it'd cost $5k- such and such was broken.. blah blah lies lies. I then decided to take it to a shop my dad recommended- they came back with a very simple solution, and it only cost $1.89. They added a quart of tranny fluid- and I was fixed. Although, for the grinding noise, it was the brakes. My rotors had warped- pads were gone, it was really bad. That one hit me hard, $900.

I hate the stealer- they're so worthless.

Gee chris, does this mean you've got a bunch of 3.4 swap parts to get rid of?

I'm going to keep the parts, eventually I will swap out the 3.0 to the 3.4. Now, probably after I graduate dental school. SAS it and it should be ready to go out west. I've met a few guys from Utah that have been through MOAB hundreds of times. Hopefully I'll be able to make my run someday! Chris

Chris that sucks man! I can't believe that truck sat there all that time. I always knew nicholasville sucked though. I took my 91 there for service one time...that was it. You gonna be home tomorrow evening? I may have a new TOY to come by and show you if everything goes as I hope it does tomorrow

Yeah, I should be home after 5pm. Ticks me off more and more every time I think about it. Even though I love the truck I got now, it's not what I really wanted. That Toyota would have lasted me another 3 years, if the dealer hadn't tried to pull one on me. Then I could have gotten what I wanted. Chris
