Jackstand points on 2001 Trooper? #706091 03/14/06 02:43 AM

Hello everyone,
A few weeks ago, I asked the best way to store my Trooper for a year; you helped me out a lot. My insurance company will indeed lower my rate b/c it's not being driven. Thanks! smile

What I didn't ask was where to put the jackstands (so as to keep the tires from developing flat spots.

I was assuming the axle tubes in the rear and the lower a-arms up front.

But after looking...the axle tubes are welded in two places on each side (from the factory...nothing I did!) and that doesn't look too strong to me...

Additionally, there's no real "flat spots" on the a-arms...do I just find a solid looking spot and go for it? Thanks very much.

ps
The truck will be indoors, metal storage building, concrete slab...$75/mo.

Yes you got it. Axle tubes and under lower a-arms. You are really going to carry insurance on it? Seems like a waste of money. The storage place might cover it from accidental damage under their policy if you are using a commercial storage service.

Thanks, CPOM. So, the axle tubes are strong enough to support it for a year?

The truck is not paid for yet, so I have to carry insurance on it; truthfully, even if it was paid for, I'd still carry insurance...my luck is bad like that.

Plus, the contract you sign with most storage places (i've used quite a few in the past 12 years) releases them for all responsibility, period. The place could be burglarized and/or burn down and they'd be in the clear.

Luckily, my Renter's Insurance also covers storage units. So, b/t that and the ins on the truck, I'm golden.

CPOM is correct, the axle holds the weight of the truck when you're cruising down the interstate at 70+mph... should be fine for a truck that is stationary. The frame itself is very solid and fully-boxed; anywhere you want to put jack stands along its length will be fine as well.

Cool. Thanks very much. Not that I didn't believe him; just like more than one opinion when it comes to my only form of transportation.
