Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey,
My dash lights are out. Passed a local speed trap and the sherrif felt the need to "spin his cherry top".
He tells me that my tail lights are out.
He goes "Are your dash lights out?" and turns off his flashlight to see the dash lights. Good thing, he missed the empties on the pass. cab floor. Ooops! I only had five at the bar.
So's; I tore apart the hack U-Haul trailer light assembly at the rear end today and still have no tail lights. I have hazards, blinkers, reverse and brakes. But the fuse box keeps blowin' a fuse. Idea?

Which fuse is it blowing? Have you swapped the bulbs yet?

If this trailer harnessing has the converter box, those are also known to go bad. Also check for those cheezy blue crimp splices; they suck. Replace 'em.

We have an 85 FSM sticky'd here if you need schematics. Make sure you download the software tool per our instructions.

FWIW, about 95% of DUI convictions start out as equipment violations when the cops pull you over. Simple fact.

You read my mind. I know...me bad.
The box was there but I tore it out. I pulled the blue connectors, too. I even pulled the license plate bulbs.
Which fuse? Uh, the blown one that's pretty much dead center in the middle of the fuse box.

Please don't drink and drive. When you kill someone, they dont' get their life back and neither do you.

Okay, I think he's got the message; now to the lighting problem.

Here's 4Crawler's link for how his fuse block looks; I take it you don't have the cover any more, like so many others:
4Crawler's Electric Tech

A common wear spot seems to be where the wire harness goes aft down near the starter, that's a high-chaffing area. Do a visual inspection there.

So it's just the running lights are inop? On the dash lights, try turning up the dashpot by your left knee. Also note whether or not the back lighting for your heater control is working, as it can be independent of the dash lights.

Are the fuel and temp guages working?

I disconnected the the big connector under the passenger seat. Still blows a fuse but I could hear a relay clicking under the fuse panel. I pulled the plastic cowl beside the clutch pedal and found the noise coming from:
round relay m3 #90987-01003 12v 22A 3F22. I'll take this over to my mechanic's and ask him to check it for me. I need to pick up another hand full of fuses, too.
Regarding the dash lights. None. the map lights work but nothing else.
I did have a problem with the starter wiring last year but all I see down there are the wires that go to the starter and the reverse light switch.

Well, I spent four hours last night and another three this morning. It's no good. I'm going to hunt for another rear harness, from the passenger seat back and see if that works.
Thanks for your help.
