for along time I have worked on this motor, 3 or 4 k on the rebuild.
20 over on pistons
head shaved a bit not much just to make sure it was flat.

going out to shovel snow will see if the build sheet is still in the glove box.

larger valves from engine builder
injectors cleaned and tested
timing is dead on
DOA rv cam
arp rod bolts
balanced and blue printed
new fuel filter
ceramic header
2.25 inch exaust, cat and muffler
center force 2 cluch. (heavy)
stock is supposed to be around 100 hp. I thought with all that I did on the rebuild that I would be any where from 125 to 150 hp. going up a hill climb yesterday with a bit of a run to the floor in first gear high range 4x4 it just ran out of power an died.

any toy tricks that I am missing. I am still looking for a 1982 celica mass air flow meter. It is 3 inch vs the 2.5 inch of the pickup one.
I have also disconnected my snorkle and that didn't make any difference.

Mudrunner
Put it on a dyno.
Be happy with anything over 110hp

Body Damage is Cool
around here they have a dyno shop called virginia speed that charges $75 for two pulls. one thing about dynos is they measure the hp that is put to the wheels. the 110 hp rating that our motors come w/ from the factory is hp rated at the crank. there is a parisitic drivetrain loss that can be up to 25%.

i was thinking about taking my truck there after i rebuilt my carb but im afraid of being dissapointed lol.

With a good rebuild and 5.29 gears, you should be fine. I would surely check the following:

Fuel pump - make sure it is good and pumping proper vol.
Wiring harness for the injectors (known 22RE problem)
Fuel filter - clean?
Air filter - clean?
Distributor - is this a known good part?
Coil & Ignitor - again, known good parts? Nothing loose?
ECM - known good part?
Vaccum lines - assuming it idles and accelerates properly?

The part about the engine just quiting is the trouble for me. These motors are not real high on HP to begin with, but they are fairly toquey. You may not get the job done the fastest with a 22RE, but you will almost always at least get the job done. These are great little motors, just not fast. However, they should not just die. I would be thinking along the lines of some sort of fuel loss or spark loss. Going up hill in 4x4, was it a real bumpy trail? If so, you may just have a loose wire or short somewhere...

Tell us more and keep us informed, the more info the better....

Thanks,
James

You might relocate your airbox to the battery tray. With two silicone couplers and an elbow you can definately gain some throttle response and power. The stock plastic air intake tube isn't too free flowing with the bends and large rubber elbow. Just something you can do for cheap to get a little more power.
