Body Damage is Cool
Which is why when I paint my new rig, I'm painting it flat. MUCH easier.......and then I'm taking it out to the desert as soon as it's dry to scratch the $hit out of it so ya cant see how bad of a job I did

Getting the Wheeling Fever
For the experts, what effect does humidity have on the coat? What are optimal humidity conditions?

And what about mosquitos? Bugs have ruined several of my redneck paintjobs. I don't care how hard you try seal up the garage, they'll find a way in. Did I mention how much I hate painting?

that's a fantastic writeup!

I'm in this boat myself. need to paint two vehicles, and I don't know much about painting, but I know what I don't like.

I love a good job, but holy crap, this looks like it might be a bit too much for me to take on. I'm such a perfectionist... I'm already feeling anxious about not having the right materials, or not getting it masked properly, or leaving a speck of dust, or the temperature being off!!!

I need therapy.

x2 on that and Let me know when you find a good therapist!! AMEN Brutha!!
I am a perfectionist however a realist at the same time. Quite the combination! I will let you guys know how things progress and take a -load of pictures and share! I just don't know if I can find the right yellow without it being acrilic or some high end crap! Additionally I know I don't have the resources to paint it unless I just park it outside and do it?

Is it ok to lay down paint coats outside when it's 110 degrees ambiant?

Ventilation is a must...unless, you thinking getting high is cool. Might look great until you wake-up the next day with a bad headache and don't know why your paint job now sucks so bad.
Respirator is a good idea. Imagine how mush paint would be going up your nose.
just my two cents.
When painting/priming. You don't want to leave your finger on the trigger all the time. Figure out your spray path and you start just before you hit your mark. Make your sweep and finger off the trigger just pass the mark. Kind of a on & off sweep. You do the same on the back sweep pass. back and forth on off on off.
I thought I would put that in sense I didn't see it posted above.

Just a word of warning. I do not know about the area you live in but in California, it is illegal to shoot solvent-based paints with out the proper equipment and a ventilated paint booth with a filtration on the exhausted air. Yes, I know many people do it but if they are caught, it can be one heck of a penalty. The same goes true with sanding and letting the water/paint mixture go down the storm drain. So be careful and I hope your neighbors are cool when it comes time to do the work.

With that being said, I painted my truck in the garage with two fans pointing out of the garage, door about two-thirds closed and a lot of plastic sheeting covering stuff.
