Have you considerd playing with some kind of ram air induction. I know the air-box is set up to draw from outside the engine bay, but it's certainly not designed to funnel the air in. If you came up with some kind of scoop, at high speeds it might give you a little something??? Maybe?? Mabye not???
Or have I seen one to many "turbonator" like infomertials..... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

>>>*Well, without the next step which is a compression increase, you have pretty much done it with the powerplant.
Now there are tricks to overcoming drag, we learned some of those on the faster racetracks and the surprise is they work some for a street vehicle running fast. The problem is that at 80 we are talking perhaps 1-2 mph tops, not enough gain.
At 180, well...yea, big difference. At those speeds, a piece of tape in the right place has been known to add 4-5 mph.
80 MPH basically shoving a wall is a lot of load, as you are finding out.
Another point here is did you regear the speedometer? If not, then you may be going faster than you think already.
More tricks are to put everything on a diet, lose weight anyplace you can spare it, it often amazes me the difference lighter wheels make.
But to boost power? Well, next is to shove fuel and air in there, this means turbo or supercharger.
On that point, I keep hearing of the tailpipe mounted turbo setups, it sounds odd to me but I have never had the opportunity to experiment.
There is a cost effective maybe, anyone with any experience? I would like to know....*EB
*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...

No experience, but i've done enough reading about them. The turbo lag is slightly more than a regular turbo (because the air is cooled by the time it hits the turbo) and there are Looooonnnggg intercooler pipes, but if you keep them relatively straight, it's not a big issue. Lots of turbo'd cars have long intercooler pipes with lots of bends and still make great HP... Personally i think it'd be a viable solution to getting more air into the engine for a street car. BUT, if you want to take it off road, a good skid plate would have to be made. It is still alot of fab, but it would be a viable solution...

I have a different take....
Sell it over there, buy the baddest ars diesel Toyota Land Cruiser you can find, then figure out a way to ship it home when you come back (isn't that an option for you guys).
You may not have the fastest Toyota in all of America, but you'll be the envy of all of us!

Too bad I swore I'd never sell this 4Runner... Owned it 8 years and counting.
I *have* considered the costs of bringing a BJ40 back on my own dime. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

A nice new(er) Land Cruiser 78 series with all the comforts plus, lockers and a turbo diesel with more power than most Toyota gas motors. Oh ya! That's what I'm talking about.
