OK, so this has been the largest automotive undertaking of my existence thus far. I ripped MUCH deeper into this 22RE than I ever had the desire to. The exhaust was cracked, so I took it to a friend of a friend to get welded. In so doing, he, for some reason welded the middle bolt on the mount for the recirculation pipe, which I had sheared off. I had planned on putting an EZ Out in it, but it went to him first. Now it seems I cannot put the middle bolt in on the flage and that will likely leak exhaust. What are my options now? I guess I'll slop it together and see if that is even the problem in getting this thing running again. What happens if I block off the whole EGR system? No emissions here now, so that isn't a worry.

The EGR slows the propogation of the flame front. Without it, you may experience pinging under load, and burning up plugs too fast. Your combustion temps will be too hot.

Thanks!

Rat farts! Anyone know of a CHEAP header that has these ports? I'm afraid its gonna leak pretty badly from the manifold without that bolt. Thanks.

How about a cheap used manifold?

Should be able to pick one up at the boneyard for $20 or less.

You are talking about the Air Injection System.
It supplies air to the exhaust ports to help combustion of unburnt exhaust.
And yes you can run with out it...my 86 4Runner 22re has no AIS.
FWIW- It is not part of the EGR system.

Anyway, I have a good exhaust manifold I would not mind getting rid of.(I mean, my wife would like me to throw out).

Ah, yes. Those dern pipes behind the head get me all mixed up. Plus I haven't looked at it in a week and it has been over a month since it was together. How much do you think DHL would ship your manifold for? I'd give you some dough and it might help make the li'l lady happy.
