I'm using the whole 3.0L system...lines and compressor, all I did was change the pulleys....the 3.0L haa a "V" belt, 3.4L has a serpitine belt.

Wow, I didn't know the 3.0 compressor would even bolt onto the 5VZ. That is great to know! Did you use the 3.0 compressor mounting bracket too? Thanks so much for this info

I can't remember exactly....but, I think I used the 3.4L brackets.

The 2 compressors ('93 & '97) are almost identical. The pully's were different (but interchangable) and the manifold's are different.....probaly because one is an R14 and the other an R134.

Howdy!

Quick question that I have not seen anywhere....

What throttle cable are you guys using? My 3.0 cable is has a larger diameter plug on the end than the attachment point on the intake. Is there a cable that works, or do I have to drill out the place where the plug sits?

Thanks!

I used the stock 3.0L cable and filed down the little metal plug until is fit into the 3.4L throttle lever. Works like a gem.

Don't know if you have looked at other posts on this or any writeups but you will need to use the oil pan from your old 3.0, because it is shaped to fit around your front diff. The 3.4 is shaped opposite to yours because on the new tacoma/runner the diff is on the drivers side.

You need to do at least a 1" body lift or cut a hole in the top of your hood and fab a cover or use a hood scoop intake or something because the 3.4 sits much taller than the 3.0. I'd go with the body lift because it is dead easy and will give you some clearance for those bigger tires you can put on once you put in the 3.4 A 1 or 1.5" lift can be done with no other modifications, gear shift or steering shaft extensions, or whatever. After that you have to start looking at other mods to fit your lift. I think 4crawler sells a good kit.

Battery needs to be swapped to the other side because the intake is on the opposite side in the new trucks. Your best bet is definitely to look for a totalled truck and get the engine because you also need if at all possible the whole intake system and MAF sensor and 3.4 computer to make it run really nicely.

It might sound like a lot to do but really it's not too bad as swaps go, most everything is just a pull and replace kind of job. I've already gone ahead with a 1" lift so I can possibly do the swap if my engine goes.

Thanks CORunner. That is what I needed to know! I think I wil try to drill out the thing on the TB instead though - sounds easier!!

Do you have a rear heater? Did you manage to get the heater hoses and the throttle cable to fit b/w the engine and firewall? It looks a little tight on mine....

Not only have I looked at a few other posts, I already have the engine in the truck, wired, and am at the point where I am trying to hook up the throttle cable ;-P
