Allright, so my trucks in the shop getting the head gasket replaced and pretty much everything else that got damaged with that fun little ordeal. Now that I have some time to shop exhaust, I figured id see if any ones running this muffler Borla XR-1 Sportsman Race Muffler and I figure im going to pair it up with a Car-sound (Magnaflow) High flow cat 91000 Small Oval (Very top of page) Catalytic and I guess ill do a 2 1/2" Exhaust on the whole thing. But im concerned about Noise and if 2.5" is a little Too big for a 4-banger. Especially being non-turbo and everything.
What's everyone else running for tubeing size? and any one experienced with Borlas exhaust lemme know how they sound. My friend has a SRT-4 with the stock Borla exhaust on it and it sounds Da*n good for a dodge. Im use to flowmasters mainly

I think the average non-turbo size is 2-1/4 for our 4bangers

I'm running 2-1/4 from the header to the cat to the muffler, then 2-1/2 from there (mainly because that's the only cheap turndown i could find locally, which is only about 14" anyway so that doesn't make much difference in my case <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I have 2.25" the whole way - the LCE header bolts onto a Car-Sound cat (maybe the same you's looking at? they all look teh same to me), and throug ha Cherry bomb Turbo muffler from AutoZone. It is kinda loud, but my feeling is it's 90% the farty muffler. Which isn't bad until ~2500 rpms or so. I bought it cause it was cheap, but next time I'd spend more $$$ and do MagnaFlow or Flowmaster instead.

Body Damage is Cool
im running an lce header(which i havent installed yet haha), to a magnaflow carsound cat, 2.00 pipe to Flowmaster delta flow 50 series, to 2.25 out. thats what eb reccomends. it works real well, added 2 mpg in the city, gave me some more power, and sounds alright. i think 2.50 is way too big. thats what the downey cat back system that everyone hates is right?

see and thats what I was thinking. I run 2.5" to 3" on my Camaro and obv thats a V8 so 2.5" on a I4 seemed like over kill. If I had the $$ for the LCE header as well I'd be picking that up too for my truck to do a complete exhaust. Hmm and you say your running 2" to the cat and muffler and from the muffler 2 1/4" to the tail pipe. Hows it sound with a flowmaster 50 series on it? I run the 40 series delta flow on my camaro and Love the sound in the V8, but the only Flowmaster 4 banger ive heard was my brothers Acura Integra and I didnt much care for how it sounded lol. Almost like a Really angry chainsaw coming at ya.
Maybe ill try your setup with the 2" to 2.25" system then if it shows reasonable gains in both power and MPG

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm running a header, flowmaster and all 2" pipe. w/o a cat I think its a little loud, but it doesn't sound bad. I've had stock manifold and cat to 2.25" pipe w/turbo muffler and it was actually pretty quiet. Also had a 20R w/header 2.5 and glasspack once for maybe 2 weeks after buying the truck - obnoxious to say the least.

Helped a friend install a borla cat-back on a v6 pathfinder a few months ago, it sounds NICE. It was smooth and throaty, but lacked the trumpet/crackle my flowmaster makes at 3k rpms. He by-passed the cat to see what it was like and it still had a NICE tone, but not too loud.

Go to main menu, offroad video, Justin in the dirt here and you can hear the borla system in action!

Waiting for install: x-over steering, dual 'cases, twin-stick, 3" body & drivetrain lift, rear springs up front
Still need: rear springs, 35" MT's, bumpers/sliders

I installed a 2 1/2" fully welded dynomax super turbo muffler with 2 1/4" pipe from the header back on my 22re. I have just a turn down after the muffler and it sounds like a v8 at low rpm's but once I hit about 3000rpm you can hear the squirels workin hard. Not quite "tuner fart pipe" loud but no v8 by any standards. I really like the sound it makes and dynomax stood behind there product when an internal baffle broke loose and was rattling. They sent me a brand new one with in a week.

ive heard lots of good things about dynomax's equipment. I tampered with the idea of that on my camaro too just because they did have one great sound to them. LOL can really hear the squirrels running hehe...by any chance do you have a soundclip of your system up anywhere? I would be interested to hear it since I could goto Advanced Auto and pickup a dynomax muffler tomorrow for my truck. And see for me, i would love a nice low tone around town and when im out in the trails a Nice scream lol

I can try and get one with my digi camera tomorrow as long as it is not pouring down rain and post it up. It would be a video clip with sound though. Not what the quality will be like.

ah well hopefully you can get a clip =) Whenever you get around to it's cool also, no rush. I've gotta get the head gasket repairs paid off first then do the exhaust
