Need a Spot
Well, I figured out two out of the three things I had trouble with before. I did some detuctive reasoning and found the diagram for the check block under the cover. It was rolled up to one side. No wonder I didn't see it before. I also realized which bolt I need to loosen to turn the distributor. It looks like a 10mm bolt to the right of the cap (if your on the drivers side looking into the bay). The only thing left is the markings on the crank pulley. I started the engine and let it warm up. As soon as it did, it stalled. I then inserted the jumper and hooked up the light and aimed it toward the pulley. I thought maybe the flashing would show the markings more clearly. It did not. The funny thing is that once I inserted the jumper, the truck ran fine for about 15 minutes. I turned off the ignition and removed the jumper. Started it up once more and it continued to run fine. Took it for a ride down the street and again it ran fine. Only when I got back and played with the throttle blade (manually giving it gas with my hand) did it once again stall. Would the timing actually cause it to stall? I guess it would if it were really off by alot. But I get the sense it's not the timing. What else could it be?

One of the first things id suggest is to make sure the ohmmeter is working properly, and get the TPS as close as possible to the stock settings. the proper readings are in the FSM, very first post in the forum, its very helpful. also, look at the position of the distributor bolt in the elongated hole in the distributor. if its all the way left or right, its probably not correct. try setting it near the middle, then dialing in the timing from there, if the truck runs right.

The bolt is located in the middle of the elongated hole. I believe the meter is correct but I will check it tommorow against another meter. I am starting to think it's a vacuum issue. I wonder how much it would cost to hook it up to one of those smoke machines and see if there are any leaks?

I would still like to know where those damm markings are for timing on the crank pulley.

Look for the notch on the pulley. I'd check the TPS adjustment first, THEN start chasing leaks. Don't go makin' this hard. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

You need to find out the cause of the stall... Fuel or spark.

It's not the timing, you're barking up the wrong tree.

I place $$ on one of 2 problems. The possibilities:

1. Bad spark = pickup in distributor is bad.

2. No fuel = fuel pump going bad/wiring in fuel circuit. Most likely a bad injector ground, though.

Find out if it's fuel or fire...

Well, it turns out it's the "Igniter". The damm thing is no bigger than my hand and the local Toyota dealership wants $489. Anyone know where I can get one much cheaper?

Thanks for all the help.......
