Went off-roading today over at Hollister Hills, the whole day was fine and I had gone the entire day with out incident. I Saw a mud hole I high centered on last time and decided to try again. Coming up closer to it I saw that it had more water in it from the last time I was out here so I decided to proceed with caution and go around one of the edges to "test" how deep it was. My front driver's side tire fell into a rut or hole and my truck started rolling, it rolled so far that my drivers side mirror was half immersed in the mud/water! I thought my truck was a gonner, some of the "spectators" said that they saw the entire bottom side of my truck and that they had thought that I had rolled completely on my side! As soon as I hit the hole and started rolling I slammed it into reverse and saved myself. I was quite lucky, the only damage was an unseated rear passenger side spring, a broken drivers side rear light (I guess it broke when the truck was going over and was laying on the bumper and it pushed up on the tail light) and a battered ego. Funny thing is right after I attempted that a Unimog with 48's went through the same mud pit and the mud/water didn't even reach the centerline of his wheels. Check out the pics my girlfriend shot.

Hey, how come your girlfriend wasn't in there with you? A little extra weight on that side might have kept you on all 4's Good thing for us though she was there to get the pix!

It was pretty intense. The last time I tried this same hole but going the opposite way straight WOT I slid into the ruts and high centered on my axles. MUDHOLE = 2, ME = 0 Third time's the charm thought.

Found the problem!!
You weren't going fast enough to stay on top of the mud. Next time hit it at 50 and you'll go right through

Nice pics. Glad your jeep came back out on of it on all fours and there was a good ending to this encounter. Like some have said it is always better to charge staight through a mud hole and keep a strap ready on the rear if you think there might be trougle. Better to be stuck in the mud on all fours than on your side. Hollister is definately one knarly soup kitchen lately. One of my favorites also and always gets my blood pumping too. Fun year round!
