I know this is probably very vague but my truck is making a spooling noise, kind of like a thing stuck into a bicycle wheel and more of a metallic sound. I can only hear it at high speeds, like ~65 mph and it only happens when I'm applying gas. I was thinking it might be the 5.38's in the rear but I've had them for a while and have just recently noticed this noise.

Doesn't seem to have any ill effect on the truck, just sort of annoying to have a sound and not know where it's coming from.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like it might be a small exhaust leak. Manifold to head, or manifold to down pipe. Just a wild guess.

Does it make the noise when you just sit in the vehicle(stopped) and rev the engine? Is it sort of a ticking sound that gets faster as you rev the engine(faster relative to engine RPM)???

Kind of a ticking sound but not exactly, sort of like the sound a bad lifter makes but more smoothed out, if that makes sense. The sound is usually constant at high speeds only when the accelerator is pushed.
I'm pretty sure that it doesn't make the sound when I'm parked and rev the engine.
Could it be that there's not enough lube in the dif? The guys that installed my gears really screwed me over once by not installing a new crush sleeve, wouldn't surprise me if they messed up somehow with the gear oil level. Maybe I'll put in some Royal Purple.
