My dad has a 2000 Passport with an auto. He said that it seems to be slipping in 1st gear. It was an instant problem. IT never slipped until one morning when he drove it to work.
He said thatslowly gassing it makes it seem better. He said it feels like the slippage you would encounter with a low fluid level...Yes the trans is full of fluid.
Anyone have this problem? Im hoping that it could be something other than "rebuild time".

from what you describe it sounds like an issue i had a few years ago. turned out to be the TPS (throttle position sensor) put a new one in and all was wonderful in shifting land.
but, that should throw a code. if the passport has no codes - probably isn't that

If you have a limited slip rear differential and you changed the gear oil but didn't add limited slip additive to the new gear oil, that will cause the clutch plates in the differential to chatter. It feels almost like a slipping transmission as you take off from a stop.
