Need a Spot
Hi All,

Been searching all over the site, found some really good info... but not exactly what I'm looking for...
sorry if the post is redundant...

I have a stock 2004 Tacoma Xtra Cab TRD with 16" rims.

Replacing the stock BFGoodrich Rugged Trails with a set of BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A's... Had these tires on my 98 Taco and loved them!

What is the largest size I can go without doing any mods to the body or suspension. I am fine with the stock size, but if a larger size will fit, cool...

Stock: 265/70 R16 (Rugged Trail)

Stock: 265/70 R16 (AT's...will fit)

Possibly: 275/70 R16 (AT's) ??
or 265/75 R16 (AT's) ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

I have the same truck as you. I bought a set of 16x8" rims with stock backspacing, and a set of 265-75-16 Procomp At's, and they rub when I turn and hit a bump or something small. Sounds nasty. It rubs against the mudflap and inside plastic panel. I ordered a set of 1.5" spacers for the front, but Im sure I'll still have to cut some plastic off so it wont rub. Seems like you really can't go any bigger on these trucks without doing any kind of mod

265/75-16 should fit with stock wheels. Rubbing can occur if you go taller/wider or use wider wheels or wheels with different backspace.

I am in the same boat as Woodson, my stock tires are about due to be replaced on my 04 DC 4x4 TRD taco. are the BFG Mud tires more rugged than the stockers? I have run the BFG mud terrians on my Jeep seems like from when they were first available and have had it though the Rubicon, etc. with no problems. although my taco does not see the off roading that the Jeep did it would be nice to have a more rugged tire. the only downside would be the howling from the Mud BFG.
how big of a tire could you go to without having to re-gear? I would not have a problem upgrading the suspension to a reasonable 2" or so lift.

Thanks for the info guys!

I think I may try the 265/75 R16 BFG AT's. Hopefully going taller but keeping the stock width will be fine. The tread is more aggressive than the Rugged T's... but the clearance should still be there.
I'll let you guys now how it turns out..

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
what are you finding for prices on the tires you are looking at?
