Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have an 85 pick up with a solid axle and when I take off from a stop I get wheel hop in the front tires. I had 31's on it was pretty noticable. Went back to factory recommended tires and it isn't quite as bad. Any ideas where i should start looking for the problem?

When do you get this wheel hop, on the street or in the dirt?

Sorry on the street. No problem when it is in 4x4.

Are you sure it is the front end chattering? I am wondering if it is clutch chatter that is causing the whole truck to shake. How is the clutch? Do you have any oil leaking out of the bellhousing? You (I hope) are not driving with it in four wheel drive on the street are you? Running the larger tires and stock gears can FUBAR a clutch.

I guess it could be the clutch? However there isn't any slipping that I can tell. The vibration is coming through the steering wheel from the front end not the rear. It feels more like worn out bushings (there pretty shot from age)

FWIW, you drive a solid axle around the first turn in 4x4 on black top and that'll wake you up in hurry.

Guess I'll put ole' Rosco in the shop and have them check him out.
