Can someone with a factory service manual scan an image of the 12 bolt axle, specifically the detail of the hub and bearing assembly? The Haynes manual has one, but I think it's a 10 bolt. I need to replace the oil and/or grease seals, and would like to be able to tell in advance what tools I need (slide hammer, bearing puller, etc). Thanks.

Will the explodes from a parts manual help ?

See THIS THREAD

One thing I wanted to clarify for myself... Jerry or Litnin might know for sure... Do I understand correctly that the shims that are shown (#39) are ONLY used on the 10 bolt, and NOT the 12 bolt ?

THAT IS CORRECT , THOSE SHIMS ARE USED TO SET THE PRELOAD ON THE REAR AXLE BEARINGS ONLY ON THE 10 BOLT , THEY ARE A TAPERED ROLLER BRNG INSTEAD OF A SEALED BALL BEARING LIKE ON THE 12 BOLT,ODDLY ENOUGH THE SHOP MANUAL FOR THE 10 BOLT CALLS FOR THE BEARING TO BE PACKED JUST LIKE A FRONT WHEEL BEARING , ALTHOUGH I DON,T HTINK IT EVER GETS DONE , AS YOU WOULD HAVE TO DISSASSEMBLE THE AXLE ASSY TO GET THE BEARING OUT SO YOU COULD PACK IT AND IN THE PROCESS PROB, DESTROY THE BRNG JERRY

Jerry,

If I'm leaking grease and/or gear oil down the brake splash shield, am I looking at replacing the outer seal as well as the inner? thx

NO JUST THE INNER SEAL PT NO IS 894178 2770 , ONE THING YOU WANT TO CHECK AFTER REPLACING THE INNNER SEAL IS THE DIFF VENT MAKE CERTAIN IT IS OPEN , IF IT IS PLUGGED IT WILL CAUSE A PRESSURE BUILD UP AND FORCE THE FLUID PAST THE SEAL, AND INTO THE WHEEL BEARING & WASHING THE GREASE FROM IT AND CAUSING IT TO FINALLY DIE , ALLSO WHEN YOU GO TO INSTALL THE NEW SEAL BE CERTAIN AND PACK THE INSIDE OF THE SEAL WITH CHASSIS GREASE SO THAT THE GARTER SPRING DOESN,T JUMP OUT WHEN YOU DRIVE IT IN AND DRIVE IT IN AS SQUARE AS YOU POSSIABLY CAN. IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE FINDING THE SEAL LET ME KNOW ,JERRY
