Getting the Wheeling Fever
My truck is blowin oil like crazy. It is coming out where one of the bolts is on my oil pump. There are five bolts, one top one, two long ones in the middle and two shorter ones at the bottom. It is leaking from the left middle one. I took it off and it looks like there is supposed to be a guide dowel (or whatever you call it) in that hole like the one on the bottom, but there isn't one. Am I right in thinking that or not? I am trying to figure this out right now so any info would be cool a.s.a.p. 1992 4x4 22-RE with 5-speed. Thanks in advance!

you might have lost that dowel.. i have herd that if you over tighten them bolts the pump will leak, some guys used less than spec torque numbers... the top left bolt gets silicone!

you need to put rtv on the threads on the left long otherwise it will leak. torque to spec.

um, there are two bolts that go through the TC cover, they are the longer ones. Then there is one that threads through the oil pump all the way through the cover and if use too long of a bolt here it can jam the tensioner. this one is "hidden" underneath the guide that shows you TDC. Then there are 2 shorter ones on the bottom. I had no dowels. So... uh.. dowels?

The longer bolt on left side has an enlarged hole on block and block side of oil pump just like the bottom right side hole does. Dowel may be the wrong word, but it is like a sleeve that fits in that hole acting as a guide and the bolt runs throught it. I would post a pic if I knew how.

>>>*Oil pump support dowel, it is actually a part that comes with the timing cover. It keeps the oil pump perfectly aligned.

I would think a leak would develop without that there. Find an old cover in a wrecking yard, pull a dowel and tap it in place. All there is to it....*EB
