I'd love to have an 93 RS, but I've only ever seen one
If I could find one I'd get it in a heart beat.

2000Trooper, why 97? I'm kinda leaning more towards a 95.5-97, does the 97 have any advantages over a 95 or 96? I deffinetly want the DOHC so that means a 96,97 or a 95 LS, SOTF doesn't bug me too much but i really don't want TOD. thanks for the advice guys, keep it coming

2000Trooper, why 97?

I picked a 97 just because itÆs the newest of the Troopers with the standard 12-bolt rear axle.

I think I reached the limit on my 2000 Trooper as far upgrades I can do to it without requiring major work.

Here is a list of things I found out about the 98 and newer Troopers:
 • Modified rear axles, beefier but no choices in gears.
 • As per ARB, 98 and on Troopers with rear LSDs donÆt have a locker available. (You could always look for a non-LSD third from a 98 Trooper, although I have heard that they are hard to come by)
 • No lower gears for TOD transfer cases.

So my next upgrade will be swapping the rear axle with a 97 Trooper axle. Will give me more gear choices and the availability of an ARB locker.

I was planning on replacing the TOD transfer case with a 98 Trooper non-TOD transfer case, but when I was comparing the design of the transfer cases, the hole locations donÆt look like they will line up!

In the case of the 97 Trooper, you will have none of the issues listed above and still have a fairly new Trooper.

Thanks for the info 2000,I'll keep that in mind when I'm looking. I think I've pretty much narrowed it down to what I'm looking for:

95.5,96,97 Trooper
DOHC 3.2
MUA-5 tranny
LS for the 95.5, and for the later years trim doesn't really matter, I mean who needs leather anyway (on this are there any other major options I should be looking for? I know the G80 LSD is something I'll be looking for, anything else that would be nice to have?)
Color, hmm doesn't really matter too much, i like most of them
thats about all i can think of, all of the advice has been great guys thanks a bunch

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a 96 tooper and have had no problems with the SOTF, the manual hubs still work perfect, you have to be carefull not to damage the shifting unit but it is tucked up pretty high so you'll have other problems if you wipe it out. inside there isn't much difference from 95 on I think what makes your search hard is that 5 spd when you find that you'll have to take what ever trooper it comes in.

Good Luck Reid

Yeah thats the prob, almost all of the Gen 2's are auto, I could stand an auto but a manual is sooo much more fun

Thanks for the info on the SOTF, I'm planning on adding some Aisins after i get it so that kinda defeats the purpose of SOTF but it's nice to know that it's all tucked up under pretty high out of harms way.

You may be a bit more limited than you think. The MUA5 is not avialble w/ the 3.2DOHC in '95 or 95.5. The 96&97 may have a MUA5 option, but I never found one. The 98+ runs the AR5 tranny, so no tera option is available.

Hmmm, I was under the assumption that all 95.5 LS models had the DOHC 3.2 regardless of what tranny they had. And i know that 96 and 97 manuals exsist, good friend of my parents had a 96 manual(true i don't know if it had the MUA5, but I would assume it did)
Wareagle yours is a 95.5 right? and has the manual tranny yet it's an LS and it doesn't have the DOHC?? Oh boy this is going to be a bit harder than i thought

Why do you want a DOHC? The SOHC and a couple more horses and its a lot easier to change the timing belt.
I've got a 96 SOHC and it is great. The SOTF went out last winter, but its an easy fix.
Not sure when they put the Coil on Plugs on(my 96 has them), but that is something you may want to consider also.
OH, and don't forget about the HUGE sunroof the higher models have!

Hmmmm no major reason for wanting the DOHC other than it has more power, I supose I could get by with a SOHC, diffinetly would be easier to find what I'm looking for

Well I've found one thats about 70mi from me

96 LS
190hp SOHC
5-speed
140,000mi
Red (Red Rock Pearl Metallic)

Don't know what all options it has, I'm going to e-mail the seller and see if I can get some more info on it, and some pics as well
