I broke the break line to the passenger front wheel this weekend and I am really not to keen on the design of it. It has about a foot or so of solid brass tubing going vertical and then this is connected to flex tube up to the frame. Something grabbed that metal section and just bent the hell out of it - I snapped it off trying to bend it back straight.
My friend's TJ has only about 1 inch of that metal part and the rest is flex tubing. I think that is the better design. What should I be able to replace my line with that would be better? Is there a way to just build your own?
I tried taking one off the Lincoln I have in the back yard and it looks like it would have gone on but is about a foot or more too short. Are these things pretty standard across vehicles? Can I order something from another car and have it fit...what have others done?

when i put a lift in my jeep i broke the rear break line. i replaced it with a longer steel braided flex tube, and had to replace some of the hard lines. i needed a double flanging tool and a hard break line pipe bender, with those tools you can do anything with break lines you need. Just go to your local auto parts store and pick them up. ask them how the flanging tool works if you don't know. cheers.

You're talking about a relativly high pressure hydraulic system. The metal BRAKE lines are steel. Even with steel lines the flares have to be doubled. Your best bet is to buy the proper replacement part for whatever model Jeep you have. If you want custom flexable brake lines, go to a hydraulic shop and they might make them for you. to try and make your own would be a BIG mistake. Don't take chances on something as important as BRAKES. If your's was the only life endangered it would be different but who knows who or what you might plow into when your homemade hose comes apart! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

That will do I think. I was rather hoping to get the materials and tools to make them exactly right the way I wanted but I can't find them anywhere around here. I think those should do the trick at any rate.

Got those and some tow hooks. Hopefully these guys are better than my last online jeep store experience. Bad service, misshipped items, and they sold me a "valve cover gasket" that was actually a tube of silicon (item desc. said valve cover gasket...had I been more observant and paid attention to the part number and my reciept I might have been clued in). I'm still waiting for them to come get the wrong bikini; at least the replacement finally got here last week. jeep4x4center.com aka morris4x4center.com was who it was - I wasn't impressed at all...ymmv.
