I'm currently running the ever loved mass produced springs from pro-comp .

Have decided not to go with a buggy leaf set up, reason being this is still my dd, the trails i get to ride have many steap hill climbs and decents so i'm concerned about unloading problems. I've read there's a way to do it, the right way , so that you don't run into this problem, but i'd like too keep my rear stock hangers just in-case something doesn't work out right, and a buggy set up would require these to be removed.

I'm planning on going with 63" chevys, all-pro jonny joints 4" back from the stock location and 6" shackles. Along with this i'd like to remove the front torque arm & bracket and put it onto the rear with the arm cut and extended to the crossmember to act as a traction bar.

Would like to get feedback on this plan before I order anything...have been going back and forth on how to set up the rear end of these springs and have settled on this for now.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks

Many people run the Chevys without any sort of traction bar, they springs are quite thick and resist wrapping, but they are so long that they still flex well. I would install them first and then see if you still need a traction bar.

As for the bar itself, I really like Budbuilt's bolt-on design with a shackle. It would provide more flex than using the torque arm (because the shackle works in conjunction with the springs) but still resist axle wrap (because it mounts in two vertically seperated points on the axle).

How about the shackle set up itself, any suggestions there?

What's the angle on that? length?
how well does it work?

I read that you want the angle to be around 50-60 degrees, that 45 wasn't good

Talon, talk to Staceman, he's got a pretty trick setup on his rear axel with a trac bar, used a spare shock mount on top of the diff and another one on the horse collar crossmember and then put something that looked like a draglink between the two of them with joints on either end. This way it runs directly ontop of the DS, dosen't rob any ground clearance and controls the diff moving front to back. I only saw it a couple of times.....we're probally goin out wheelin this weekend so if he can't post up a pic I'll take one for ya.

I run a double shackle set up. I just made another set of shackles and attached them to the factory ones. the double shackle works well, allows for lots of drop. I also cut out my old front hangers.

I was going to run dual shackles, with the stockers on there now and stock chevies, but don't think i will now because of the unrestricted droop, lack of resistance keeping it close to the frame....again, the unloading fear on steep decents

heard they were the worst in that area

I used to run a 7" long shackle w/ 56" rear springs. I now have a 6" + 3.5" double shackle off the stock shackle hanger. I made the top shackle able to bolt to the frame and so far (~3 years) I have yet to unbolt it on- or off-road. Some day I hope to fab up a trac bar and then unbolt the shackle and see what it can do.
