Need a Spot
This is my first post... well i have a 87 toyota 4x4 with a carbureted 22R. Im about to do some timing chain work so i figure i might as well look into a new cam because lets face it... its very under-powered. im thinking one of those TRD level 1 cams because i live in southern california and its going into my daily driver. i was wondering how the TRD cam holds up against crane cams, engnbldr, DOA, etc. does it even make a big difference? and remember i need it to be smog legal. thanks for the help.

First, welcome tho the board <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> You will find the search option helpful about 60% of the time. Once you learn how to use it.

I got a TRD cam when I bought my 4runner. It was in a box and had several chips out of the lobes. Junk in other words, However I do not know the history of it so it may have been abused out of the motor. I would recommend a engnbldr cam. Great price, he is a member of this board, and it is a quality product. I have the crawler cam and though my lower end is not too noticable, due to still having stock gears with 35's. I can maintain over drive alot easier now on the highway.

I run a TRD Level-1 cam in my '85/22RE:

Pretty happy with it, seems to really help up at the top end along with the header and intake mods. I went with TRD mainly since it came with a Calif. EO smog sticker.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'm running the TRD level 1 w/ stock manifold on 22RE. The MAF was modified for the increased air requirements. Definitely helps. Have 38K mi on it.
