It has been suggested that I vent the engine compartment with a couple of air scoops (one over the carb & the other on the opposite side).

Where is a thread I can refer to? I've got a body shop connection and really need to do this before I go out on the trails again.

Body Damage is Cool
Get some vents from JCWhitney should cool ya down. You can also unplug the a/c compressor and just run the condensor fan.

New fan clutch ordered. It was weak, but I still want to vent. The engine compartment got so hot on my last trail ride the gas was vaporizing!

If the fan clutch is sound, the engine compartment vents very well as it is. I suspect that the carb is getting heated by the coolant in the manifold, which is overheated by the lazy fan.

You can open up the inner wheel wells to vent the engine.
If you have an older radiator, have it rodded. Cleaning just don't do the job. Been there and done that. I added a switch to the AC fan too.

The fan is weak but the coolant was not very hot. The guage (working properly) was only halfway up. The heat is not leaving the engine compt. EVERYTHING under the hood was untouchable, including the hood. The fan can be felt blowing up ward but as soon as you put your can approx where the t-stat is you cannot feel andy air movement. The fan blades could be cracked since some semi deep water was encountered by the present owner, whoever that is.

Something is up, I run my truck in 110 degree heat and it never gets that hot.

Maybe the water pump is shot? It's hard to belive that everything under the hood is baking and the guage is only at the half mark.

The jeep on the cover of 4wheelparts mag has a few fans bolted right on the hood, ugly as hell but I'm sure it cools. So I wonder if the fan is pulling air up or pushing air down ? Hot air rises

I also wonder how it does in winter. Even if the fans are turned on by manual switch there are still gaping vents that will hinder its ability to warm up and stay warm in winter. If I put vents in my hood I'd want to make sure I could close them off as needed. Otherwise, I'd never warm up in winter.
